The Karamoja Clean Water Project
In the semi-arid landscapes of the Karamoja region, home to many artisanal mining communities, access to clean and safe drinking water is a profound daily challenge. As a company based in Kampala, we believe in our responsibility to support the foundational needs of the Ugandan communities linked to our industry. Recognizing that water is life and the cornerstone of all development, we launched The Karamoja Clean Water Project in 2021 to address this critical issue head-on.
In close partnership with a leading water-focused charity in Uganda, our initiative funds the entire process of establishing new, sustainable water sources. This includes conducting geological surveys to identify the best locations, funding the drilling of deep-water boreholes, and overseeing the professional installation of durable, user-friendly hand pumps. To ensure long-term success, the project also facilitates the creation of local Water Management Committees, empowering the community to maintain their new resource for years to come.
To date, this project has successfully installed three new community wells, bringing safe, accessible drinking water to an estimated 1,500 people. The impact is transformative: it has led to a dramatic reduction in waterborne diseases, improved sanitation, and significantly lessened the daily burden on women and children who no longer have to walk for miles to fetch water. This initiative is a powerful testament to our belief that investing in basic human needs is the most direct path to creating a healthier, more prosperous future for all.
