The Mambasa Cultural Heritage Centre

At Pearl Gold Merchants, from our base in Goma, we understand that true partnership in the DRC extends beyond economic development to the profound preservation of cultural identity. The communities linked to the gold sector are rich not only in resources but in invaluable traditions, music, and art. That is why in 2024, we proudly launched The Mambasa Cultural Heritage Centre in Ituri Province, an initiative designed to safeguard and celebrate the vibrant cultural legacy of the region.

This project, conceived in partnership with local community elders and a dedicated cultural preservation NGO, provides the essential funding to establish a dynamic community hub. The Mambasa Cultural Heritage Centre is envisioned as a living space for the transmission of invaluable traditions. It serves as a vital venue for the preservation and teaching of traditional music, ancestral crafts, and the rich oral histories that define the identity of the local communities to the younger generation. Through workshops, storytelling sessions, and artistic performances, the Centre ensures that these cultural treasures are not only remembered but actively practiced and evolved.

Beyond its role as a learning institution, the Centre also functions as a central hub for community meetings and cultural events. By providing a dedicated space for gathering and celebration, it plays a crucial role in strengthening social cohesion and fostering a sense of collective pride. This initiative is a powerful demonstration of our deep respect for the people in our sourcing regions, proving that our company values their rich history and cultural heritage as much as their resources, thereby forging a truly ethical and holistic partnership.
