Project Amani: Empowering Women in Mining Communities
At Pearl Gold Merchants, we believe that sustainable prosperity in the gold sector must include the empowerment of women, who are the backbone of their communities. Project Amani (Swahili for ‘Peace’) is our commitment to this belief in action. Launched in 2021 in Ituri Province, DRC, this initiative is designed to create diverse economic opportunities and foster female leadership where it’s needed most.
Working hand-in-hand with a trusted local women’s association, we go beyond simple aid. The program provides a powerful combination of seed funding through micro-loans and practical business mentorship. This support empowers women to launch their own independent enterprises—from thriving agricultural ventures and tailoring shops to local food services—that serve and strengthen the community’s economy.
The success of Project Amani is measured not only in the more than 80 women-led businesses it has helped establish, but in the profound ripple effect on families and the wider community. By fostering financial independence, the program helps build confidence, enhances local food security, and ensures more children are able to attend school. It is a testament to our conviction that investing in women creates a legacy of peace and prosperity for all.
